1) What is the Project Mr. Rutland is trying to manage? Has it stayed the same?

The main project was to establish a Jazz hall of fame that attracts national recognition. However, after one year, the board of directors discovered that in order to save Paramount Theatre, they needed at least 600,000$. So the project objective was changed to making sure sufficient funds are available for business survival.

2) Identify the various stakeholders in the project, including competition?

a) Mr. Rutland

b) NJHF board of directors

c) Jazz Musicians and Composers

d) US Jazz enthusiasts

e) Charlottesville community

f) Tourists

g) Philanthropic organizations

i) Other prominent halls of fame (Baseball, the professional Football, college football, and the country music hall of fame)

3) Of the skills mentioned in the chapter that a project manager needs, which are most important here? Why?

Credibility: both technical credibility and administrative credibility are required in this case, so as to be able to raise the required funds. Organizations and individuals will not be donating funds to a project headed by a person whom they don’t trust or in a project managed by an individual who is not competent to do the job

Be Direct: Project managers are respected if they are direct, open, and deal with all types of problems. Never conceal problems or avoid addressing them. This will also assist in the project objective of raising funds

Ethical: this will also enhance the credibility of the project manager in the eyes of the donators and therefore, enhancing the ability of the organization in raising funds.

4) What credibility Mr. Rutland have? Is he a leader?

Mr. Rutland is a history professor at the University of Virginia. However, this does not provide him with the technical or administrative credibility to become the responsible project manager. In addition, the text...
