What is the plan that you propose to senior management?

Before one attempts to answer this question, it needs declaring that with the limited information and no data one can only expect commensurate results. In the present proposal the attempt will be to make the least amount of presuming; one of the root causes of mistakes like groupthink. According to the American Dictionary of the English Language of 1828 presume is “To take or suppose to be true or entitled to belief, without examination or positive proof, or on the strength of probability” (Webster, 2009). In great leadership the attempt is to not presume, but to venture into the future with authority. This is not derived merely from a position of authority but from having the authority of the most current and accurate data. Next, taking this data and analyzing it to create the best possible strategy for all of the stakeholders.

Today business personnel are blessed with many tools in every aspect of their lives. In business one of these tools is scenario analysis. Many times in the use of scenario analysis managers’ approach its use superficially and receive the equivalency in their outcomes. The use of analysis can be a great tool in developing business strategies, but it is critical to use the right tool for the right job. The example of using one’s finger to check for voltage is not the proper tool for the job. Though one will find voltage’s presence, but shocking and sometimes fatal will be the results. Management is no different. Dr. Robert R. Werner in Designing Strategy summarizes the use of scenario analysis in developing a good plan or strategy. He states, “Strategy is not a substitute for good management, good technology, and good people. Good people, good technology, and good management are not a substitute for a good strategy” (2010).
