Child poverty is growing in some of our richest countries. The United States comes in second regarding childhood poverty. Poverty in childhood is a child who resides in a household where a parent income is less than half of the national median income. Children today are living in more single parent households where basic needs such as clothing, shoes or food are needs difficult for the parent to meet even with a working income. The poverty level in all countries is determined by social trends, labor market conditions, and government policies. Increasing social and family changes are also influencing the poverty rates in every country. Individuals are becoming parents at a younger age, some who are forced to drop out of high school and work minimum wage to support their child, thanks to government funding insurance such as Medicaid and CHIP (Children Health Insurance Plan) those children living in poverty have access to health care.

The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund or UNICEF was developed to help and assist building a world to help the rights of all children. The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund was founded on the basis that all children need care and nurture to help overcome childhood poverty, disease, violence, and discrimination that fall in a child path. The development of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund is well known in its fight of the health and welfare of children. The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund is a nonprofit organization depending on governments, fundraisers and donations in order to carry out help to children in need.
