Does God Exist?

The existence of God has remained a complex topic of interest among philosophers as well as the scholars. Different opinions and arguments have been proposed as to ascertain if God exist or if God does not exist. In the beginning, God created the universe and the world was formless and desolate (King James Version Bible, Genesis.1.1-2), is a common quote from the bible that everyone is familiar with. I believe there is a God who oversees the affairs of the universe because I couldn’t begin to imagine the complex universe we live in to be without a creator.

Theology means the “study of God.” There are various types of theology that holds different view about the existence of God, among these are the revealed theology1 and the natural theology.2 we also have theories such as naturalism,3 deism,4 pantheism,5 and theism. 6 All these theories hold different views and arguments about the existence of God. Some of these theories share commonalities and some differences at the same time. Theism unlike the others holds the

view that “God is an infinite, self-existent, all-powerful, all-knowing, perfectly good, and personal being who created the universe out of nothing and controls it” (Kessler and Tchamala 557). I agree completely with the claim made by theism because I cannot begin to imagine the world as self-existing, self-regulating like the naturalism claimed or think that the universe run on its own without God’s interference or help. I am a believer of miracle and I know that God in his infinite power has helped the world in different manner that we cannot comprehend. On the other hand, I ‘am not in agreement with the pantheism’s claim, because to say that God does not go beyond the universe is actually in my own view saying the universe just happen in a burst and that there is no creator God.
