The Tired Swimmer: A Case Study on the Nervous System
Part I
1. Annie began to have blurred vision, joint pain in her carpals, weak breathing, and constant fatigue.
2. With blurred vision and eyestrain we must look at the optic nerve within the brain. From there, what could be causing the difficulty breathing and weakness? It must be a neurological problem involved with the synaptic centers. Since Annie is having such problems when she is working out hard and just playing around it can’t be related always to work, but to everyday tasks as well. (
3. Breathing is an involuntary function of the respiratory system. In the spinal cord there are nerves that are in charge of these involuntary functions. There is also the medullary rhythmicity centers in the medulla oblongata that adjusts the rate of breathing. By having multiple sclerosis, Annie is having degeneration of this area since it is apart of the brain and spinal cord.
4. It seems as if Annie is exhibiting signs and symptoms that are common with the nervous system. By having vision problems resulting in weakness, Annie exhibits symptoms of multiple sclerosis.
Part II
1. Double vision and joint fatigue in her fingers.
2. Refer to paper.
3. With the decline in muscle function can be a good indicator that electrical impulses from the brain is becoming disrupted by some disease which may account for her eye strain and blurred vision.
4. It seems as if Annie is exhibiting signs and symptoms that are common with the nervous system. By having vision problems resulting in weakness, Annie exhibits symptoms of multiple sclerosis.
Part III
