Mining Incident - Employee Communication

The communication to the company employees should be a face- to- face communication. It should be held to make sure that all of the facts that are being presented to the families and to the media are in line with each other. The official company response should be sent to each employee by e-mail or by memo. The information presented should only be of a factual nature. Each employee should also be convinced the company is doing everything within its power to handle the situation.

As all of you probably have heard, around lunch time today; August 5th, we experienced a cave in of the main ramp into our San Jose Mine. There are approximately 33 miners unaccounted for and believed to be trapped approximately 2,300 feet underground. At this time emergency officials have been unable to communicate with the trapped miners. Please check all attendance logs and let’s confirm the names of the missing miners. Along with the names, please indicate where each person was supposed to be working. Check the lockers of each individual and indicate if they left any of the required safety equipment behind.

We as a company need to ensure every affective family that we are currently doing everything humanly possible now to locate and rescue every missing miner. At the last count, we currently have more than 130 people from Chile’s National Emergency Office working with us to make sure every possible safety measure is being addressed to ensure that we find them as soon as possible. Currently the rescuers are facing a momentary setback due to another cave-in that blocked the path they were attempting to use to reach the miners. The government agency is heavily involved in the rescue attempt. The just told CNN, “We are going to do everything humanly possible to rescue alive the 33 people who are trapped.
