Production and Productivity Improvement Study

Introduction:

Diesel is a significant energy source for the mining activities to excavate materials. It is used for mining processes that include drilling, excavation, and material transport processes such as the hauling of coal and overburden. Dozer is also used in miscellaneous work such as making shovel working face & maintaining haul road including coal and OB dump etc.

The transportation network of the mine includes a fleet of high capacity dumper plying between excavators and dump site. The fleet size of dumper depends on the payload, material handling capacity of excavators.

Open cast mining processes:

- face making for drilling

-drilling

-blasting

-excavation by shovel of various capacity

-hauling by high capacity dumpers

A study of removing coal and OB by a designed and suitable loading and transportation system in an open cast mine to optimize production synchronizing with number of loading machines(shovel) viz-a-viz number of dumpers required serving at loading point(at working coal-OB face) using work measurement, method study , time and motion study to assess

the optimal number of dumpers required to serve at a loading point, number of trips per hour and output given based on time and motion study.

Need for study:

It is required to fulfill the practical training as per the course-curriculum led by the institute, for the purpose we have visited the Tetulmari OCP mines, Sijua area under BCCL Dhanbad. A detailed study for fulfilling the requirement has been conducted and a study report has been prepared to be submitted to the department.

Methodology Adopted :

Observations regarding the rate of diesel consumption for diesel powered excavators, dumpers, dozers and drills were considered. Diesel consumption during the study period was assessed by fully filling the diesel tanks of the equipment. The equipments were then deployed in production for a considerable period of time span...
