1. Determine how five guys’ philosophy sets it apart from other fast-food chains

Five Guys’ was started in 1986 with a philosophy, In order to compete with large and well established fast- food chains, it is very important to have a quality product and keep customers satisfied.

Jerry Murrell, In his own words “Sell a really good juicy burger on a fresh bun. Make perfect fries. Don’t cut corners.”

The meat for burgers is 80% lean is always fresh, never frozen. The burgers, which have 17 toppings are all ready to order. Their plants are so clean, you could eat off the floor.

Murrell believes cooking is about feel; there are no timers in his restaurants for Fries. Fries are much harder than burgers, says Murrell. We work day and night on them.

Potatoes for their fries come from northern Idaho, where they grow more slowly and because of weather conditions, grow solid and tasty. Most Fast-food chains serve dehydrated frozen fries.

At Five Guys they soak the fries in water so when the fries are pre fried, the water boils, forcing steam out of the fry. This form s a seal to that when they get fried a second time, the fries don’t absorb oil and so are never greasy. Cut fresh morning with silver of skin left intact, the toasty wedges are served in a white Styrofoam cup.

At Five Guys, they believe that their best salesman is their customer.

It’s also why they don’t invest a great deal in advertising. “Treat that person right, he’ll walk out the door and sell for you”

The entire burger category is a $40 billion industry in the U.S., dominated by McDonalds, Burger King and Wendy’s.

Should McDonalds and the others be worried about Five Guys? “We could never compete with them on price, says Murrell. Still, the big boys have taken notice.

Americans have always fallen in love with a better product.”
