Module 1 Review

Part 1

1. Information technology can support a company’s business process by making the flow of available information easier to analyze and interpret. For example, the company Cablecom from this week’s case study used IT to monitor customer feedback and develop a system of customer retainability based on a timetable of “high risk of leaving” patterns.

2. The use of internets is a very valuable asset in today’s economy. The ability to make your company known on the internet greatly increases the company’s availability as well as allowing for inter site advertising. For example, airlines that make themselves available on the internet make it easier for customers to book online, check into flights, pay for baggage, and see updated flight times. The use of the internet seems to be a staple in today’s economy.

3. A manager can demonstrate that he or she is a responsible end user of information system by simply knowing the system. Being able to interpret the IS and use it to its full potential makes managers valuable knowledge workers. Also being able to develop IS solutions to analyze and fix problems within makes a manager a valuable asset to a company.

Part 2

1)

a) Failure to save information frequently could result in a data loss for a number of reasons. A computer could crash, get a virus, or the user could simply close the program they are using and forget to save.

b) Making a backup copy of user information is always a good plan. Data loss could occur is a system crashes, and viruses attack.

c) If a large file gets deleted and the inner subsequent files are backups stored in the same location then it would result in a total loss of information.

2) A few procedures that could minimize the risk of data loss would be to set up an auto save setting if available, making frequent backup files, storing backup files in separate locations, and running antivirus software on a daily schedule...
