Famous Thinkers Paper
One of the most famous thinkers that contributed to our society was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. King growing up wondered why he could not be friends with people who had the opposite skin color of him. Growing up he saw this as a problem in society and being the creative thinker that he is, created a dream which changed the United States and eventually the world.
Another famous thinker that contributed to our society was Cornel West. Dr. West is a prominent and provocative democratic intellectual. Most of the work that Dr. West does has to do with the roles of race, class, and gender in the American society. He studies how people react and act to their radical conditions.
Social/Political Environment
Dr. King grew up in the Atlanta, Georgia and growing up developed deep roots in the African American Baptist Church. Through Dr. King’s theological studies, varies models of religious and political leadership, and his extensive network of contacts in the peace and social justice movements of his time, Dr. King lived a remarkable life which reflected on others and inspired so many of the twentieth century’s major intellectual, cultural, and political developments.
Dr. West grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma and then migrated to California. Dr. West later graduated from Harvard University with a degree in Near Eastern languages and then earned a doctorate in philosophy from Princeton University. Later he became a professor at Harvard and in the department of Afro-American Studies. Being such a well known scholar he has been able to strengthen African American studies amongst students. With his the many skills and knowledge he has gained from his studies and teachings, he has inspired many of his admirers and critics.
