3. What is an RFP, and how do analysts use one to gather information about hardware and system software?

RFP (request for proposal) is a document given to vendors to ask them for proposals on what hardware and software that will meet all requirements of a new system. By asking for an RFP from other vendors you are basically asking the vendors to do the research. You can ask them to make sure the information contains certain information, like reliability or speed/# of operations per second, which is vital for you. You ask for a demonstration and for an estimate of the total cost.

4. What methods can a systems analyst employ to verify vendor claims about a software package?

One method is to use the software yourself by running tests based on what criteria was to be met when selecting the software. Another method is by looking at the feedback from other customers who use the same software. There is also the option of using an independent software testing service that evaluate software and look at a collection of user opinions.
