Why Pursue Higher Education after a Master’s Degree

From the 1950-1970, just graduating from high school was a giant step. It was a major accomplishment for the majority of students. Their parents rejoiced in knowing that their child/children finished high school. They felt they had done their job, putting their kids through the first twelve years of school. Their kids were now educated and prepared to meet the challenges ahead of them. They were now of legal age and a graduate. The parents rejoiced at their freedom.

The kids celebrated the end of school, with no more reminders of teachers, rules and books. Wow, they were free at last! No one could tell them what to do anymore. They were grown. No more homework, no more detention and no more lectures. The world was their oases. Where shall they go from here? It’s party time! Party over here and party over there was theirs round the clock.

Through the years, things have changed. Now, a high school diploma is unless you enlisted into the armed forces, where only a high school diploma was necessary. Businesses want more. They are seeking students with college degrees. Businesses were looking for potential leaders to head up their companies.

The question is, “What can a high school graduate offer them?” This is a doggie, doggie world and very competitive. How can a high school graduate compete with a college graduate? The answer is simple. Go back to school, and get a bachelor or master’s degree. Why stop there? Jobs were few, and students are plentiful. There is an ole saying, “if it ain’t written, it ain’t done.” Students needed to have their diplomas of higher learning in print. It needed to be in the form of a certificate or plaque for the entire world to know, you made it!
