Assignment 4

In assignment 4 of this course, I will talk about the idea of abortion as an important ethical issue. This is a very emotional moral decision to make both for the parents and for the medical professionals like doctors and the nurses. The ethical question is "Is it morally the right thing to do for medical professionals to perform abortions if the pregnant woman wanted to do it or not?" This is a very broad and controversial ethical issue, and there are lots of opinions about it. In this essay, I will talk about some of the pros and cons of doing abortions for women based on their request and medical professional’s obligations to these women and their unborn child, and finally I will give my opinion about this ethical question based on my discussion.

First I will talk about the case if abortions were allowed to perform by medical professionals. Is it morally a right thing to do, and end a pregnancy based on the woman’s request? I will talk about the pros first. If doctors perform abortions for women when they want to end their pregnancy, this means that women can have the freedom to decide over their own body. Women may have many different reasons to end their pregnancy. Some of these reasons might be an unplanned pregnancy, pregnancy that was result of rape, pregnancy in teens, or medical conditions in mother or the unborn baby, or having financial or other problems to remain pregnant and to take care of the baby after the birth. Any of these reasons might make a woman feel like she wants to end her pregnancy with good reasons, and if it’s done by medical professionals , women can do it in a safe way and the risks involved would be much less. If we consider Doctor’s obligations to these kind of mothers as their patient, then it might be beneficial for them to do abortions for them, because if a woman is not mentally or physically ready to have a baby,...
