Andre Garcia was courageous because he overcame all of the obstacles that comes with having a criminal record. When he was a teenager, he took the wrong approach on life. He thought he could take what he wanted instead of earning it. He didn’t think of the consequences that comes with that way of thinking, so he robbed people and stole cars to make money and have transportation.

The life style he chose to live only got him time in jail and when he was arrested he could have been bailed out, but he decided it would be best to stay in because he knew he would go right back to his ways. He did over a year in jail, but he took advantage of all the help they have in the prison system. He got his G.E.D. and went to work release and got a real job. Life in jail was not easy for him. He almost joined a gang, but decided against it. He had lots of support from family and friends, which gave him the courage to go on and try to better himself. When he got out of jail, he tried to look for a better job but no one wanted to hire him due to his criminal record. He did not give up, he worked several lower paying jobs just to make ends meet and to help support his daughter that was born while he was in jail.

After several years of being out of jail, he found a good paying job, got married, and had another daughter. He could have given up and went right back to the way he was, but he decided that was only going to lead him one of two ways: life in jail or death. He now spends time with his children and teaches them that earning something is a lot more rewarding then taking things that do not belong to you. He demonstrated courage through all of his struggles, in the end, it made him a stronger and better person in which he can now share with his children.
