A Christ-like Marriage

For my paper I will be exploring the image of marriage depicted in Ephesians 5:22-33. In light of this particular topic I will also be exploring how this image compares to the idea of gay marriage in our society today. Throughout this study I will also investigate the passage in Genesis 2:24 that speaks specifically of a man and a women in the institution of marriage. In our society today it is often argued (even by pastors) that these verses do not apply to today; that they are outdated and need to be edited. Some say that the Christian faith shouldn’t dictate how everyone has to live their lives and thus Christians should just deal with gay marriage. The problem with this is that the Christian God is the one who instituted marriage in the first place and so if you kick Him out of the picture you really do not have the institution of marriage at all. To this argument I would say that the people described in Romans chapter one were also living in this “age of grace” as we are but God didn’t seem to speak too kindly of them in the opening of that book. In addition to this however, there are many reasons I chose this topic. I am a biblical studies major and I love studying Scripture so any chance to write a paper on a passage of Scripture is an exciting opportunity...
