The video “Baby Talk and Brain Waves” explored how gamma rays affect language ability in children. The video showed a strong correlation between children with stronger gamma power and strength in their language and the way the understand (Cengage Learning, 2013). The video explored the differences in children who have delayed issues in language development. In the video soft censor caps were used on toddlers to measure brain waves from ages of 16 to 36 months. Though the study may help with early detection in issues with language development it does not mean it will be able to tell if they child will have those errors in the future. “Researchers studying the brains of toddlers say the strength of their brainwaves can indicate language ability (Cengage Learning, 2013).” The video stated that parents should take their child to a pediatrician if they feel their child may have language problems as soon as possible.

Brain wave bands coordinate with nerves in order to perform task in understanding and paying attention to one another and scientist use these different waves to see how different parts of the brain work together (Burns, 2013). The video specifically discovered the connection and power in gamma waves in understanding the strength in language with these toddlers. In the study the toddlers with darker red colors scored higher in language development where those with less red shown with yellow colors showed lower developmental signs (Cenage Learning, 2013). “Katia Lehongre and colleagues have found that in humans, gamma bands are especially important for parsing words into sounds (Burns, 2013).” Baby talk is a normal occurrence in language development that starts between 18 to 20 months (Morrisey, 2012). It is important to recognize when children are experiences problems in this stage as it can indict speech and language problems. “Generally this takes the form of using nonsense words, putting on a higher pitched voice, cooing or creating a sing-song...
