Technological innovation is an important part of a competitive business. A business needs new and improve products, a more successful way of ordering products or a new way of processing products for their customers in order to be successful. My company that I will be looking at is Wal-Mart. I worked for the company for ten years and watched it grow through new technological advances.

Wal-Mart uses several strategies to reach their competitive advantage. The company is one that is a discount store that goes into areas with smaller populations instead of building in large towns. Wal-Mart has been the lead retailer in many ways. It information technology, transformation of supply chain relations with brand names and their goal of one stop shopping. Wal-Marts competitive advantages of technological scale over its rivals is what keep the company top in its class.

Wal-Mart technological edge is in its logistics, distribution, and inventory control. In 1969 they installed their first computer system and in the late 1970’s the stores and distributions centers were connected (www.wal-mart.com). Soon after they will introduce the scan bar and will improve their restocking system with one that when an item is purchased through the register it will reorder automatically.

Wal-Mart will be the lead retailer and its technological innovations just keep improving on a daily basis and is competing with the Global market. The company sells everything from grocery to general merchandise. Their focus is on the customers keeping things affordable at low prices.

In the organizational context innovation may be linked to changes in efficiency, productivity, quality and competitive positioning. All organizations can innovate but Wal-mart has captured the market with its innovative technology in the last few years.
