Lab #2, Terminating Category 5e and Category 6 UTP Cable

Lab Report

1. In the videos you just watched where is the color code to use for the jack shown?

Using the 5e connector the color code is on the side of the jack next to the pin number.

Using the 6+ connector the color code is on the inside of the jack next to the pin numbers.

2. For the wires how many possible termination color code methods are there?

There are 8 different color code methods.

3. How many wires are there in a UTP cable?

6. What is the most critical part of the termination procedure to ensure low crosstalk on the connection?

Do not unravel more than 0.5(half inch) of the wire and not to exceed the bend radius or crimp or cut the wire in any way.

7. How is the outer insulation covering each wire cut through during the termination procedure?

With wire cutters or crimper.

8. Which termination color code method is used in this example?

5(blue & white), 4(blue), 6(green), 3(green & white), 1(orange), 2(orange & white),

7(brown & white), 8(brown).
