Special Populations (Homeless Americans)

There were several special populations that I found to be interesting. These populations include domestic violence, homeless Americans, and children with learning disabilities. After carefully reviewing each different topic I made my decision to do my paper on the homeless. This assignment will examine the resources that are available to help this population overcome their problems and current needs. In the United States many people are dealing with becoming homeless at an increasing rate. The recessions have forced many people to become homeless.

I have selected this population because I have always wanted to help individuals in need. As an adult and as a child I can remember driving through downtown Houston and seeing all the homeless people sleeping on the sidewalks and begging for food and money. This interested me because I have always thought what I could do to make things better for them and make a difference in his or her lives.

I bring to the field a big heart and years of helping others in need from family members, friends, and complete strangers. I have always been the one others look up to and come to if they have a situation that is out of their control and need extra help. I believe this would help this specific population since they are in great need of things that they no longer can get on their own and needs someone who can help get them the resources that would help them get back on track.
