ETH125 Week 1 DQ 1

I really have a hard time introducing myself by any identities, racial, or ethnic groups. I am not really part of any one ethnic group; racially I am a 31 year old white male. Even though I could identify with certain European cultures because they are in my bloodline, I feel it hinders me from experiencing the fullness of individual cultures. I was born in America, but not into specific culture. Each of us, no matter what we are or who we identify with, has something to offer each other. So we can enrich each other’s life. Since I do not identify with one particular group or race, I can enjoy many aspects of each culture. Like the music from Jamaica, Ireland and Britain. I also like many entertainment types, such as British Television. So I cannot pinpoint one particular culture, because each one has something to offer me.

Even though many people can comfortably call themselves “typical” Americans, I personally cannot say I am a “typical” American. I feel it stereotypes a culture that in essence encompasses a myriad of many other cultures. I grew up being taught that within the American culture there were many cultures, each making up America. So knowing that, I believe there is no such thing as a typical American. We are all different in our own way, created equal and have a unique part to play, molding a culture that embraces uniqueness. This makes for a journey that brings fullness and vibrant excitement to this nation we call America.
