Comparative education is a fully established academic field of study that examines education in one country (or group of countries) by using data and insights drawn from the practices and situations in another country, or countries, regions and periods of history. (Comparative education involves the analysis and comparison of educational systems.) An important aspect of comparative education is contextualization, a countries educational system can not be viewed properly without looking at things which may influence or affect it. Political, social, and economic conditions are all involved in shaping educational systems and determining outcomes. Some of the fields of study within Comparative education are: Governance and control structures , legislative frameworks, administration and management aspects, financing of education, educational structure, learners, teachers, curriculum aspects, language aspects, religion and culture, support service to education, assessments and achievements, quality control, ideological aspects, economic aspects, political aspects and change and innovation.

There are an array of reasons why people benefit from taking note of comparative education. Comparative education is used in the development of educational programs and frameworks. Comparing systems give educators ideas for revitalizing one system by incorporating elements of others and it gives people the ability to track progress over time. This can strengthen an educational system in addition to creating an objective method of evaluation and study, providing meaningful data for people who are concerned about educational outcomes and techniques. Some other important reasons for studying comparative education can be found below.
