Introduction

Just what is a System Development Life Cycle and how does it apply to a Customer Relationship Management tool? A System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) is the process of developing information systems through multiple steps beginning with the analysis of the initial requirements needed all the way through the design, implementation and maintenance needed. There are many different models of a SDLC but each usually consists of a series of defined steps. The goal of this paper is to provide a continuous improvement plan to for a Customer Relationship Management tool to be used by the Star Tribune sales, marketing and operation teams. Currently the organization has a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) that is antiquated and provides little value beyond a regular spreadsheet or database. The Star Tribune is need of this CRM tool to better share its knowledge of customers across the different departments and also in between existing and new employees.

The systems development life cycle (SDLC) is a model used in project management that describes the stages involved in an information system development project, from an initial feasibility study through maintenance of the completed application. Various SDLC methodologies have been developed to guide the processes involved, including the waterfall model (which was the original SDLC method); rapid application development (RAD); joint application development (JAD); the fountain model; the spiral model; build and fix; and synchronize-and-stabilize.
