Accountability

Accountability is important because it lets your leadership know that you are ok and that you are alive. Me as a soldier should let my leadership know where I am at in case we take IDF or some type of attack so that they know where I am located at all times. Everyone is responsible for their own accountability and let their leadership know where they are even if they are taking care of their own personal actions. The things that accountability is meant for is that you can at all times know where you and your own equipment is at, at all times. In a combat environment accountability can save lives so that you know at all times that the soldiers are always on their toes and being vigilant and focused on the mission at hand. If you don’t have accountability of all your soldiers at all times and one of your soldiers gets killed in action, you think that if you had known where they were at, you could have possibly saved their life or at least conducted first aid on that soldier. It could also help from the leak of information that could possibly hurt or hender the mission and the other units that are helping you.

Accountability is an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for ones actions. Now for the Army, it becomes an obligation more than“willingness” while you have to be willing to do it as well. Those that are unable to be accountable are the ones that jeopardize the combat readiness of any unit. Basically it is the understanding that from the bottom up. Top down and laterally everyone is going to do and is willing to do the right thing even when no one else is looking. This is practiced at your home base where everyone is assigned tasks and details not only including your own job that you are expected to do and do right but hold others accountable as well as a system of “check yourself, then check your buddy.” Doing the job correctly and ensuring others do it as well and do it safely are all part of...
