Apple Incorporated is redesigning its IPhone as well as the Macintosh. It is including an online music service for its ITunes called ITunes Radio. The new iOS 7 will be similar to Microsoft’s Windows Phone software. They are removing some of the old textures and coloring while adding an effect that makes the apps icons almost look like they are 3D. “A new iOS feature, called Activation Lock, disables the iPhone even if a thief has turned it off or erased the data on the phone.” (Chen, June) This new update will also include an update to Siri, which is the voice controlled assistant. Apple has also improved its Safari browser to compete with Googles updates to the Android devices. The iPhone is Apples biggest profit maker however they cannot rely on that alone so they are also improving the Macintosh as well.

Macintosh desktops new design will look like a metal cylinder instead of the rectangular tower. Macintosh will also be updating its operating system. It will have “a tabbed “Finder” window, tags, improved multiple-display support, a new Maps app and a more social safari browser”. (Pepitone, 2013) The new Apple has not updated the Macintosh in three years so this will seem like a big improvement. The MacBook Airs will have longer battery life to it as well as a new processor.

Even though Apple still dominates its competitors they need to become more strategic because the competition is started to catch up. The updates to the iOS and Macintosh is strategic because investors are concerned since the death of Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs was the innovator and the investors are concerned that without him Apple will not be able to bring new inventions to the table. The new update will help them compete with Microsoft’s Windows Phone. Also Samsung has released several comparable smartphones and tablets in the years making them one of Apples biggest rivals.
