Identify the principal issue presented by the source. Capital punishment is the principal issue. Capital punishment presents the viewpoint as an act of violent revenge which fails to prevent crime.

The author only provide statics that confirm his supposition. For example, twenty-two thousand murders are committed in the US each year, however only two thirds are convicted and 45 percent are found guilty.

If none exist, explain how you determined this. “ Retributive justice has a bad history however as if has been historically used to enforce a class society by opposing the poor and protecting the rich” the vagueness of this statement leaves the reader baffled and confused.
