Napoleon Bonaparte

Napoleon Bonaparte was a French military and political leader who rose to prominence during the latter stages of the French Revolution and its associated wars in Europe. Napoleon was an opportunistic leader who’s military genius was unmatched and his political prowess very solid, but his goal of overtaking Europe ended his power. Napoleon was a powerful military leader who was able to gain the respect and admiration of France through his military victories.

Napoleon was born on August 15, 1769 in Ajaccio, Corsica. His father was a prominent lawyer and his mother died at child birth. He had a very prominent education; he entered a school in a town called Brienne-le Chateau. Napoleon exceled in mathematics, after school he enrolled in Paris military school. Napoleon received his military training from Ecole Militaire in Paris. He studied to be an artillery man and an officer, after military school Napoleon joined the French army when he was 16 years old. In 1792 Napoleon was promoted to captain, shortly after he led a siege in Toulon. With the success at Toulon, Napoleon was promoted to brigadier general. After Napoleon was promoted to general, he was made commander of the French army in Italy. Napoleon was a successful general that defeated many Austrian generals. Napoleon used unpredictable strategies to win battles against the Russian army and Prussian army.

One of the battles that showed Napoleon’s military genius was the war against the Prussian’s. Prussian’s was a military super power that was known for their traditional military etiquette. One of the Prussian’s general’s name was Hohenlohe. On October 14 near the town of Jena, Napoleon caught up with Hohenlohe. Hohenlohe kept his soldiers in tight order, orchestrating them like a corps de ballet. While Napoleon’s soldiers operated in a unruly manner.
