Reflection of Modern Myth

The team assignment of choosing a modern myth forced me to ask questions regarding the future of our existence as well as our country’s future. Team A chose the modern myth of the American Dream. While completing this project in a team environment it helped me gain a better understanding in addition to other perspectives on the American Dream. This made me look at and take a more philosophical thinking approach about what direction we are heading as a country and society if actions are not taken to preserve our way of life. When I reflect back on the research and thought that went into completing this assignment, I discover through Socratic methods that the future is much bleaker then I have anticipated. My search for truth has led me to understand how the impact of government on society and inept leadership has led to deterioration in our country and livelihood.

Knowledge is something people should crave, but with knowledge comes greater understanding of the world. Some people would rather stay blind than educate themselves and see the world for what it truly is. The American Dream is one of social mobility and opportunity, both of which seem to be dissipating within the United States. The economic gap between social classes and opportunities to improve one’s social status seems to be growing at an alarming rate that can leave us as a society that is destining to remain stagnant. People are becoming too reliant on a government that is inept at implementing solutions to problems that exist and people are becoming less educated on how to help themselves. Education I believe is the key to getting this great country back on track and becoming what our founding fathers envisioned for us.
