Law enforcement agency’s reach particular goals using automated license plate readers, like any other type of technology used among agencies there are benefits and draw backs of the technology used. Automated license plate readers are a piece of technology that has a high cost in the government. The effectiveness of this technology is very good in the way of crime and money collected to cross bridges in many parts of the United States. To make this type of high quality technology work, training for those individuals inspecting the cameras is highly necessary. The person in charge has to know the function, legality, and liability issued for such technology being used in many cities around the country.

Automated license plate readers have been used all around the United States. Readers are mounted on police vehicles or in bridges, stop signs, traffic signs, and in stop lights (Nano, 2006). These license plate readers are using high speed cameras to capture thousandths of plates per minute. The readers conclude of license plate numbers, date, time, and location of every scan (Nano, 2006). This information is being pooled into regional sharing systems for law enforcement agencies and other type of government officials (Nano, 2006).
