Regarding a Mayor receiving gifts from organizations is one that John Locke would not agree with. Locke founded his ethical theories on the idea in the natural integrity of humanity. Seeing how this act is highly unethical, this is an act that is not agreeable with neither I nor the view of John Locke. Being given gifts from contractors and or organizations that have not done business but do plan to do business in the city can be misleading and misunderstood. Considering the fact the Locke believed that people did not have the right to harm another’s “life, health, liberty and possession” so this act would categorize as harmful doing to the possessions of those who would’ve given gifts to the Mayor in this scenario. There may be considerable actions expected of by the Mayor from those who issued gifts. This would compromise the integrity of the Mayor and possibly tarnish the character and moral appearance of the Mayor.

Considering the college Professor who chose not to improve her lecture plans due to the fact that she was working on her Doctorate in night class, this would be an act that is shown by Locke. Referring back to Locke’s view in the State of Nature, and the natural condition on mankind; he understood the ideology behind the nature of wanting to protect your natural right. In the scenario of the professor not putting forth the effort to correct, change, alter, or even better her lesson plan, she feels as though it is more important to focus on her own school work rather than make sure she is providing a certain level of quality education to her students. Her focus is more so focused on her own success. This is not an ethical practice. This professor has an obligation, responsibility, and duty to the students in her class to ensure that she is providing a service.
