The ozone layer protects the earth from ultra violet rays sent down by the sun. If the ozone layer is depleted by human action, the effects on planet Earth could be catastrophic. The ozone layer absorbs 97-99% of the sun’s high frequency ultra violet light which is potentially damaging life on Earth.
The fact that the ozone layer is being depleted was discovered in the mid-1980. The main cause of this is the release of CFC (Chlorofluorocarbons).
Antarctica was an early victim of ozone destruction. A massive hole in the ozone layer right above Antarctica, now threatens not only the continents, but many others that could be victims of Antarctica’s melting icecaps. In the future, the ozone problem will have to be solved so that the protective layer can be saved.
Human activity is the most prevalent and destructive source of ozone depletion, such as the release of various compounds containing chlorine or bromine, accounts for approximately 75-85% of ozone damage.
The most evident and destructive molecule of ozone is the chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) that were first used to clean electronic circuit boards, aerosol, coolants, refrigerators, and air conditioners. When CFC from these products are released in to the atmosphere, the destruction begins.
There are harmful effects of ozone depletion: Skin cancer, blindness, destruction of ocean food chain, and terrestrial and bio-chemical cycle disruption. This will affect our climate, and global warming will become worse.
Rapid urbanization and industrialization is inevitable. We cannot stop the growth of our economy. Meaning, more industries, factories, cars and other products which causes damage to our ozone layer. Our trees and forest are denuded due to illegal logging.
The effect of strong storms and rains...
