Demonstrative Communication

Provide examples showing how demonstrative communication can be effective and ineffective, positive and negative, for the sender and receiver.

Demonstrative communication is a way of communicating a message without using words.  It’s expressed by both unwritten and nonverbal communication which can include facial expressions, gestures, posture and body language, and appearance and all other forms of communication not expressed verbally. Nonverbal communication is just as important as the words we speak when communicating with others. Demonstrative communication can be effective or ineffective and positive and negative depending on how messages are interoperated. Examples will be given showing how Demonstrative Communication can be effective and ineffective, positive and negative, for the sender and receiver, and how Demonstrative Communication involves listening and responding.

Facial Expression is an effective Demonstrative Communication tool because it helps get an understanding on what the listener/sender is thinking. By learning to understand and interpret facial expressions you can learn to know if instructions were given clearly by seeing if the receiver is having a difficult time understanding. Also by learning facial expression the sender can learn to see if the message is being interoperated wrongly by offending the receiver so as the misunderstanding can be corrected prior to continuing. Though most cultures differ on a lot of facial expressions the main facial expressions of happiness, sadness, anger and fear are universally understood among all cultures. Understanding facial expressions is only half the battle, learning to express correct facial expressions is the other.
