As Europe’s largest economy and second most populous nation in the European Union, Germany plays a major role in the continent’s economic, political and social environments. Germany is the leading exporter for machinery, vehicles, chemicals, and household equipment and benefits from a highly skilled labor force. (Anderson, 2012).

In an article German Economic Strength: The Secrets of Success” by Richard Anderson, the recipe for Germany’s successful Economy is described. Anderson states that Germany as “Europe’s industrial powerhouse, and the world’s second largest exporter, a country who has single-handedly stopped the Eurozone falling back into recession, and the only nation rich enough to save the Euro.” Germany has benefited greatly from the Euro. Germany adopted a weaker currency by getting involved with a sluggish economy in southern Europe and continued to refuse to spend beyond their means while the rest of Europe lived on credit. (Anderson, 2012). Cultural differences play a significant part in the German economy. Germans are not comfortable with borrowing money (Kohl, 2012). When the recession in Europe hit in recent years, both consumers and businesses didn’t have to cut their spending. (Kohl, 2012). Another factor that plays into Germany’s successful economy is labor reform. Germany practices a strong employment protection between the workforce and well profitable companies that have not over borrowed. Unemployment increased across Europe and the United States but the jobless rate in Germany barely moved. (Anderson, 2012).
