Our lifestyles and ways of living are directly reflected by the way we behave and the items we own. These in a one way or another are exhibited in the things we discard. In other words, the trash we throw away directly tell more information about us; our ways of living and our levels in the society. It even reflects the information of the far members of the society that relates to us or influences our lives in one way or another.

For the past one week, I decided to collect some data and interpret the findings in order to prove this. I collected data from my own garbage, as well as the data from my fellow college mates who we reside in the same hostel as I.

Before looking deep into the information gathered, it was very easy to notice the bigger picture that portrayed the negligence our society has given to the environment. About 80% of the garbage was constituted of polythene materials. Polythene materials are non- biodegradable and vastly contribute to the degradation of our environment since they do not decompose, and they destroy the utility of soil; from which the primary form of life grows. This observation clearly showed that our companies are not environmentally conscious and produce goods packed in polythene materials, and there is no initiative from the government to encourage the recycling of such materials.

On personal and social levels, individuals who live fancy lifestyles discarded wraps of fancy items or food. Their garbage are associated with expensive pizza wraps, expensive junk food wraps; in fact, it’s like they never even cooked but bought ready to eat food. There was evidence of expensive lavish items in their trash. Most of these individuals were wealthy. In contrast, middle class had their distinguish data composition whereas the poor were openly displayed by the nature of their trash.
