Sometimes in life you must stand up and be the courageous person. It may be hard but it’s always right to do the right thing. Throughout the story every character showed a small sign of courage at one point. Atticus in particular showed tremendous amounts of courage in this novel. In Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, Atticus Finch exemplifies a courageous and moral character.

Atticus Finch was a humble yet courageous man. He believed in the ultimate good of the people and the importance of living one’s values. For example, “When they finally saw him, why he hadn’t doneany of those things… Atticus, he was real nice…” His hands were under my chin, pulling up the cover, tucking it around me. “Most people are, Scout, when you finally see them,” (Lee 243). This quote emphasizes Atticus’s strong, loving role as a parent to Scout and Jem. It also shows that he believes you should get to know a person before you start to judge.

Atticus also believes that it is wrong to hurt something or bother something if it did absolutely nothing to you. For example, “Remember it is a sin to kill a mockingbird” (Lee 175). Atticus is saying that a “mockingbird” does not harm anyone. It goes around all day singing its sweet music not disturbing the peace but bring bright joy to it, so it would be wrong for Jem to shoot it. In addition, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from their point of view,” (Lee 129). Atticus is saying in this quote that you never really know someone or know what they are exactly going through if you don’t step in to their shoes. This act is called empathy and Atticus displays it throughout the book.

Courage is a tough trait to bargain but Atticus showed the true meaning of it. He teaches his kids all about life throughout the book. Many characters in the books claimed that Atticus was not a good father to Scout and Jem, I happened to thing very differently.
