This paper evaluates the extent to which consumer law enhances the protection of the interests of consumers. The creation of consumer laws was meant to ensure fairness for the consumer. The consumer acts as a course of any business activity. It is, therefore, necessary that consumer protection laws be incorporated to prevent unfair business practices or deceitful activities. Most governments have put in place legislation regarding consumer protection to enhance the protection of consumers. The laws are normally in reference to a given business. For example, some of the laws may entail information on industries. This may involve ensuring public and personal safety for an industry like the food industry (Furmston and Chau, 2010).

The creation of consumer laws to enhance the protection of consumers might have arisen from the creation of consumer rights. This means that the consumer laws also consider consumer rights. These are rights placed on the products and services consumed by the consumers. It is in enhancing the rights that governments place different organizations to help consumers obtain information and make diligent choices on the products they purchase (Furmston and Chau, 2010).

Governments not only enhance the protection of consumers, but also keep organizations from careless competition that may harm the consumers, by placing consumer laws. If the consumer laws would not have been placed, then it means that organizations would have manufactured products without caring about the wellbeing of consumers. This depicts the extent to which consumer laws enhance the protection of consumers (Furmston and Chau, 2010).

An examination of most consumer laws reveals that the laws tend to regulate relations between producers, businesses and consumers in ensuring protection.
