1, “Organizations are (1) social entities that (2) are goal-directed, (3) are designed as deliberately structured and coordinated activity systems, and (4) are linked to the external environment.”[1]

An organization is not just a station or a set of policies and procedures, people exist in it and do some activities. Every activity has its purpose. Whatever the managers or the employees, they have different positions in the organization, but they are working for it to gain their goals. An organization has deliberately structure and coordinate organizational resources to achieve the organization’s purpose. I think this is one of the differences between organization and team. A hospital is an organization, it is divided into ophthalmology, dermatology and other departments. However, a team can be at liberty. Moreover, an organization cannot exist without interacting with customers, suppliers, competitors, and other elements of the external environment. All of them together are playing important roles in the whole society.[2]

2, I will take my undergraduate university Nanchang University to describe the definition of organization.

First, it is a school. It employs about 2,400 teaching staff working there and more than 40,000 students studying there so it is a social entity.[3] Second, it develops its academic level, builds beautiful campus, all of these activities have their purposes. At my undergraduate time, it was building the third and new campus of the university. It wanted to enlarge its fame and influence further, so it began with the huge campus construction. It won’t do anything without a purpose. As a school, if it has no plans and do something randomly, it can lose its students, teachers and reputation. At last it can not be an organization anymore.
