HRM 330 Course Project Paper Outline

1. Introduction: Unions have a long history in the United States and there have been diverse opinions as to whether or not unions are necessary. Unions protect employees from unfair treatment by corporations; they represent several types of workers from mechanics to pharmacists. Unions are important to our workforce and have several benefits which will be explained further in this paper. The topic of preserving unions will also be discussed.

2. The Importance of unions

a. Benefits for employees

i. Fair contracts are negotiated, provide representation on the job and various benefits.

ii. Employees that are members are unions gain a collective voice regarding working hours, wages, benefits, and working conditions.

b. What unions do for companies

iii. Unions are associated with creating higher productivity and lower employee turnover.

iv. Unions improve workplace communication as well as created a better trained workforce.

3. How to maintain unions

e. The benefits of unions are so great, if union representatives stick together and organize new members to join, unions can once again start growing.
