I. From the following items you are to answer 10 ONLY. In a short paragraph you should tell what the item is, what its purpose is/was, why it is important, etc. In other words give a concise answer telling what you know about it.

1. Qualifications to be President-The constitutional qualifications to be a president are as followed. The President must be a natural born US citizen. He must be 35 years or older. He must also have been a resident of the US for the previous 14 years. The 22nd amendment limit’s the president to 2 terms in office or a maximum of 10 years in the event that he became President by serving as Vice President when his President died or resigned. The qualifications were designed to keep people who only know a little about the United Stated from being President.

2. Electoral College - Electoral college is when the Presidential electors from each state meet after the popular election to cast ballots for President and Vice President. As a part of the Federal system the President is elected by a majority of the states, not the majority of the people. Each state cast a number of votes to equal the numbers of members it has in the US House of Representatives plus the two Senators. To be elected as President, the winning candidate must receive majority of the votes.

3. Federal District Court- The Federal District court is a trial court. Both criminal and civil cases are tried, generally in the presence of a jury. The federal District court is important because within limits set by Congress and the Constitution, the district courts have jurisdiction to hear nearly all categories of federal cases, including both civil and criminal matters. Every day hundreds of people across the nation are selected for jury duty and help decide some of these cases.
