A Road of Love

There is a road which always lingers in my memory, no matter I am far from my hometown or not. It is not very long, approximately five hundred meters in length, and it is rarely known by people outside Shanghai. However, one should not miss it when visiting Shanghai. It is Tian Ai Road——the road of love.

Its unique silent and relaxing environment creates a loving atmosphere. It is an unnoticeable turnoff from the famous main street, North Sichuan Road. Just turn a corner, and there comes a totally different world. Lined with tall dawn redwoods, the path is neat and quiet. On both sides of it stand the old villas, time worn but still eye-catching for its well-preserved shape and delicate design. A wall is built outside the villas, which resists the peek of pedestrians and adds a sense of mystery to the houses. Existing in harmony, the trees, the villas, and the lawn surrounding the path form a beautiful picture and provide a visual enjoyment.

It is a road of love, for all kinds of loving sound come to one who walks along the path. As the name of the road indicates, it is supposed to be a heavenly place for sweet lovers. And surely it is. A special mailbox at the crossing attracts my attention at the first sight. If one drops a letter into this love mailbox, the recipient will receive the letter with a postmark of love on it. Moreover, on the wall along the path are engraved twenty eight famous love poems from all over the world. Every day sweethearts from everywhere wander on the road, hand in hand, and read the poems such as “Listen, my heart, to the whispers of the world with which it makes love to you”. In such a situation, I feel that the breeze, the chirps of birds and the rustling of leaves all speak love. That may be why Tian Ai Road is known as “the most romantic road in Shanghai”.
