Question 1

The gross material requirements plan is a schedule that combines a master production schedule and the time-phased schedule. The gross material requirements give an indication on the time at which an item should be ordered from supplier in case of no inventory on hand or if in order to meet the demand for finished product the production process should be launched.

The net requirement plan is prepared only when there is inventory on hand.

MRP and MRPII offers a framework for defining in a structured way:

* Goods / materials, services and resources required to manufacture each product and their sequences.

* The rules related to the replenishment of each property / field and served.

* Rules related to the capacity and availability of each resource.

The main difference between MRP and MRPII lies in the fact that MRP model plans the goods / materials and production services (Resources Planning) while MRPII in addition to the MRP function adds the planning of both production resources and its capacity.

MRP (Material Requirement Planning) filled various functions:

* The MRP is the initial step for calculating capacity requirements. It can be used in calculating labor costs and means of production necessary to meet the needs of the Master Production Schedule in time.

* MRP is a tool which could be used in long-term planning. It make use of business data (sales forecasting, orders) as well as technical data (ranges operations positions load) to simulate and balance workloads and capacity.

* MRP could also be considered as an information system which assists in automatically launching production orders.
