The classroom was already empty when Mark knocked at the door. He wasn’t happy with his current situation, he knew that he was supposed to spent time trying to prepare a decent enough presentation for his boss and their clients and there he was, dragged to the school by his childhood friend to speak about the misbehavior of his son. He couldn’t really blame the guy, he already owed him much for turning the blind eye more than enough times for his sake. Still though, the timing could not be worse, and frankly he could surely wait till tomorrow to tell him everything needed to be told since they would spent the whole fucking day together!

Erik was sitting behind his desk, focused on some sort of document in front of him. When he heard the knocking he quickly raised his head, straightened his glasses and smiled to Mark while pointing him to come in the room. He wore that smile with pride, it was a beautiful smile, reassuring. The kind of smile that makes a student open up and bond with his teacher while feeling safe. Mark hated that smile.

“I hope that I am not putting you too much out of schedule” Erik smiled while offering his hand as a greeting. “I know how the business world can be too harsh and unforgiving sometimes… but unfortunately, so is parenting.”

The smile remained on Erik’s lips but his eyes were now piercing Mark. All those years as a high school teacher have taught him well, he noticed. For a second there he felt like he was about to be punished. He wouldn’t be a proper business man though if he didn’t have his way of turning the tides to his favor.

“I am sure you know that no meeting, no matter how important it is, would keep me away from my son’s problems. You know how it is with teenagers though, right? We are never there for them when they need us while at the same time we are too oppressive and can’t get away from them when they want to be cool.”

He shook his friends hand while smiling as well and took a chair from the student desks behind him...
