Does Gender Affect Memory?

Contrary to a computer hard drive or hard drive disk, our brain does not reproduce accurately the scenes that were previously occurred (Foster, 2011). Some elements stick in our minds but others are literally vanish or completely destroyed (Foster, 2011). Many times we even have the tendency to remember some experiences that have never occurred. During the last few decades, experts have started to focus on the different factors that influence our memory. In their researches, they have tried to answer the following question: “Does gender influence the memory?” In this paper, I will try to answer this question by explaining the three among many, noticeable differences between males’ and females’ memory.

The first difference is the remembering emotional information. In an experience done at Yale University, 425 students, among them172 males and the remaining is females of an average age of 18 years old had taken the test of “The Emotional and Interpersonal Sensitivity Measure (EISM)”( Bloise & Johnson, 2007). This result coheres with the one given by the “Emotional and Social Sensitivity Subscales of the SSI (what is the SSI)” which consider women more intelligent emotionally than men (Bloise & Johnson, 2007). Many other experiences were done within the same context; for example, measuring the empathy or interpersonal orientation, and the result was always the same. Women tend to be more emotional active and have more interaction with others’ emotions (Bloise & Johnson, 2007). Actually, encoding information in the memory with an emotional context makes the retrieval easier than when encoding neutral information. For instance, when women want to give an advice, they include...
