Abstract

Adding recruiting sources, specific recruiting messages, and employer brand and image will help Wellpoint, Inc. generate larger recruiting pools. While Wellpoint has established recruiting sources, I would suggest they also take advantage of employee development, college recruiting, employee referrals, and creating a résumé database. Wellpoint is known for being the nation’s leading health benefits insurer and should use this to elaborate on their brand and image to recruits. They have a standard recruiting message that should be used; however, they need to develop a recruiting message for each of their openings instead of generalizing for every opening. Communications, slogan usage, and sharing recruiting databases will ensure the recruiting actions are effective.

Wellpoint, Inc. is an established health benefits company headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. They are currently recruiting for a Business Change Manager through advertising, job fairs, e-mail notification, and their Website at www.careersatwellpoint.com (Wellpoint, n.d.). Along with using these recruiting sources, I would also take advantage of employee development, college recruitment, employee referrals, and a résumé database.

Wellpoint is a Fortune Top 50 company and has 43,000+ employees at their disposal. Wellpoint has an existing pool of employee’s with knowledge of their policies, procedures, culture, and healthcare experience (Wellpoint, n.d.). Wellpoint should develop a mentor program for employees at entry level up to and through middle management. Along with this on-the-job training, an in-house training program could be set up to ensure the promotability of each employee. This employee and leadership development would allow Wellpoint to promote from within instead of spending money to hire from outside.
