LOCAL LITERATURE

Originally, there was the National College Entrance Examination (NCEE)which assessed whether or not a high school graduate should be admitted to college. Obviously, the purpose was to avert the admission of incompetent studies to the degree courses and who would later become unemployable degree-holders. The noble objective then was to prevent the wasteful use of public funds and the proliferation of diploma mills. The NCEE finally was scrapped because it was being used by government to decide who should go to college and who should not.

The NSAT was not intended to measure the educational achievement of students but to determine the instructional capability and effectiveness of the nation’s secondary schools. Even during the time of the NCEE, colleges and universities used their own college admission tests as a final instrument to determine who should be admitted.

The University of the Philippines Admission Test (UPCAT) is a consisting of subjects on English proficiency, reading, reading comprehension, mathematics, and science. The languages used are English and Filipino.

The Ateneo de Manila College Entrance Examination (ACET) is a test developed by Ateneo which puts emphasis on English, Math and Science proficiency.

The De La Salle University entrance test usually consists of language proficiency mathematics proficiency, science proficiency, reading comprehension and essay writing.

The University of Santo Tomas entrance examinations consists of mental ability test and aptitude test in English, Mathematics and Science. Appplicants for the conservatory of Music and the college of Fine Arts are also required to take special ability tests.
