Since the appearance of technology, people have started to depend on their technology devises. The most common of technology devise among ourselves is the smart phones. Almost everyone has one and if they do not, they surely have a computer. Even with great advances in technology, there are also many downfalls, for instance the ability to harass and deceive others. In this paper we will discuss two major polices that have been enforced to one protect an individual’s personal information from being misused and two to protect our children from harmful content on the Internet.

Children’s Internet Protection Act

The Children’s Internet Protection Act was enacted in 2000 to address concerns about children’s access to obscene or harmful content over the Internet (Federal Communications Commission). This requires schools and libraries to have certain technology protection measures that block and filter Internet access to pictures that are obscene, child pornography, or harmful to minors (Federal Communications Commission). Schools and libraries are also required to adopt Internet safety policies that address the safety and security of minors using any sort of direct electronic communication, unauthorized access, and that of which restricting harmful material to minors.

As the 20th century came in to play, the need for newer technology became a necessity. With computers in almost every school and library gave our children and teenagers easy access to the World Wide Web, where they were exposed to the cyber-world. Possessing this access increased their chances of cyber-bullying within chat rooms and pornography that damaged their virgin minds.
