Chapter Twelve

Dr. Baumgardner, I have below my responses to the questions within the chapter.

2.

4. As stated in the reading as companies go through some hard times they are forced to start downsizing and laying off people. Which will force people into either early retirement or severance pay. The statement “ I see no point in sacrificing 100 percent of the employees for the 35 percent who ought to leave” is saying that why do I need to downsize 100 percent of my employees when really 35 percent of them are the ones that may be effecting the company and not putting all the effort into work when they are here. The company doesn’t want to get rid of the good people in this situation because when they do get back up to speed they will have lost all their better employees instead of just eliminating the ones that were potential a hit to the company. You don’t necessarily have to eliminate and downsize everyone at once but you want to figure out who is the best and is worth willing to keep. 5. I think it is a good idea on their part. You need to think about the environment as well not only your company. If customers were coming into your business knowing you are endangering the rain forest they might not buy from you. It may not be exact but in the end you are helping out the environment, which should make you feel better, and your consumers. Another thing you could do is donating some many from your business to an association to help keep the rainforest from getting endangered.
