Abstract

This article provides a brief review of current literature on ERP and its implementation in industries. To fully understand the ERP software key points, risks, benefits, critical success factors, implementation issues, and the fundamental on that are identified and reviewed. Some applications of ERP in public places, government offices, and industries are briefly discussed and four related cases are reviewed.

WHY

1.) This article is important as it provides a good background on the ERP implementation and review four important cases from the literature to clarify the intention of ERP software in general. To better introduce ERP software to new users the risks and benefits of that are discussed in item lists and each are described briefly. As the need for greater customization of ERP software increases the risks associated with the ERP implementation will get higher (Soh et al., 2000) and hence the cost to the organization and services for the end users. To get away from such expenses careful selection and evaluation of ERP systems is in order to reduce the potential risk of software selection. It is also important because ERP implementation is a lengthy and complex process, and there have been many cases of unsuccessful implementations (Parr and

Shanks, 2000), which have had major impacts on business performance. As ERP play a very important role in business, ERP implementation and its critical issues, success factors.
