The universal question that many people have come in terms with is, “What is religion?” Once that question is established and addressed in some form or fashion one might then ask them-selves the following questions, “What does religion have to do with me? Why is religion important not just to me but my family, friends, and the people I associate myself with?” As a response to those mind bottling questions religion, being defined in a broad sense, is the human quest for, experience of, and response to a higher power or pathway to a realm of enlightenment. This universal human activity can be expressed in at least three ways: thought, action, and fellowship. Even though there are many different types of religion they all follow these three forms of expression. As a whole they each bring their own distinct ideas to the table. My personal experiences with religion has opened me up to different traditions and taught me to embrace different cultures. Due to my spiritual growth in a religious community with a Baptist background I developed a newfound appreciation for the concept of religion as a whole which enabled me to answer those previous questions pertaining to the concept of religion on a more personal level.

My name is Krystal Jackson and I was born on the south side of Montebello CA, a little town just outside Los Angeles, where pretty much everybody you come in connect with is either a Catholic or fall upon the Christian faith by practicing some form or branch of Christianity. In the community I grew up in people constantly expected your steadfast attendance at either mass or a traditional Baptist church service every Sunday morning. It was a sign that you practiced your faith, therefore a way of letting others know you maintained a strong connect with God.
