Child Abuse

“But I still love my dad,” I was surprised when little girl said this after getting abused by her dad for more than five years. Child abuse is a horrible social problem that’s happening all around the world. Children do not have much power as adults do and adults are taking advantage of it.

Many people think that parents who abuse their children have some kind of mental illness but the truth is less than ten percent of parents have mental illness. Most of abusive parents have less patience and less mature personalities than normal parents. They still love their children just like other parents. Complex combination of personal, social, and cultures problems tend to be a result of child abuse. People tend to think that its abuse only it’s violent, but that is not true. Neglect and emotional abuse can be just as damaging, and since they are harder to be noticed by other people it happens more often than physical abuse. Neglect is one of the common types of child abuse. It’s a pattern of failing to provide for a child's basic needs, whether it be adequate food, clothing, hygiene, or supervision. Child neglect is not always easy to be notice. Sometimes, a parent might become physically or mentally unable to care for a child, such as with a serious injury, untreated depression, or anxiety. Other times, alcohol or drug abuse may seriously impair judgment and the ability to keep a child safe.

Also other type of abuse that is hard to be notice is sexual abuse. Child sexual abuse is an especially complicated form of abuse because of its layers of guilt and shame. Children might not have enough courage to tell people because they are embarrassed about it and scared of people will judge them for it. It's important to recognize that sexual abuse doesn't always involve body contact. Exposing a child to sexual situations or material is sexually abusive, whether or not touching is involved.
