[ICONIC BUILDINGS] |

A research paper highlighting the relation of the iconic buildings with cultural tourism. |

ABSTRACT:-

This research paper aims to develop a framework within which the place of iconic architecture in capitalist globalization can be analyzed.

My general approach identifies the drivers of I-branch in architecture. The historical context of the research is the argument that the production and representation of architectural icons in the pre-global era (roughly before the 1950s) were mainly driven by those who controlled the state and/or religion, whereas the dominant forms of architectural iconicity for the global era are increasingly driven by those who own and control the corporate sector or in other words economy. The paper focuses on iconicity in architecture as a resource for boosting cultural tourism. It also discusses the significance of iconic architecture for economies such as Bilbao which have been through a period of recession and turmoil. Following the iconic trend is one of the best ways to increase the economic revenues and today nearly every city is eager to posit itself as the tourist city in order to attract tourists from all over the world.

The paper also looks at the issues of cultural megalomania of those who rejects it on the basis of an attack on tradition and analyze the argument quantitatively to see what matters more in reality. In this domain the paper contains the definition for understanding of culture as non-static or dynamic.

Since architecture is a form of art and art is meant to express, therefore the architecture of life should possess meaning in it. On this basis, the paper supports the prevailing global culture of iconic buildings as a progressive approach towards architecture.
